Dress smart. You don't have to wear a suit in your LinkedIn headshot photo, because appropriate work attire varies based on your industry. Pick clothing you would wear for a job interview. Avoid busy patterns and keep your jewelry minimal.
Keep it simple. Your profile photo on LinkedIn appears in a small format and when you click on the photo it doesn't get much larger. The key to a small image being easy to "read" is simplicity. Avoid busy backgrounds. Don't apply filters your photos.
