The truth about AI headshots

Updated: Sep 2

Sometimes I'm asked if AI photos have impacted my business. Here's the truth: someone who chooses an AI headshot was probably not my client to begin with.
Here are a few reasons I recommend steering away from AI headshots:
Most people can tell when a photo is AI generated. Peers, potential clients and employers will spot the unrealistic skin texture, clothing or accessories in artificially-generated headshots.
Generative AI is having damaging effects on our environment. The heavy carbon footprint of powering this technology staggering.
An AI-generated image photo is not really you. Do you want a client’s first impression of you to be a fake image of you? In addition to lacking authenticity, signals that you took a shortcut instead of working with a professional to craft an image.
Most of my clients are established in their careers. Many of them are moving into consulting, writing books, coaching, speaking and hosting workshops. They place a premium on authenticity. They’re experienced professionals who have earned every gray hair with years of experience in their field, including:
CFOs raising capital
Executives who frequently speak at their industry conferences
Attorneys who close huge cases
Financial advisors who manage their clients manage and build wealth
Authors and consultants whose personal brand is their business

These are the clients who value my services and expertise with business portraits. They want real lighting, real coaching, and an honest finished product. Human connection and years of experience with portraits will give you the results that AI cannot.
